Infosys placement test pattern: Systems Engineer, DSE and Specialist Programmer
Infosys hires freshers into more than one role, and the tests are not the same paper at different cut-offs. The Systems Engineer route is commonly reported as a timed multiple-choice test of reasoning, mathematics, verbal ability, pseudocode and puzzles, followed by interviews. The Digital Specialist Engineer and Specialist Programmer routes are reported as a three-hour test of three coding problems, with the score deciding which of the two roles is offered. HackWithInfy, Infosys's coding competition, is a third door that leads to pre-placement interviews for Specialist Programmer.
Infosys's own careers pages name the programs and describe HackWithInfy in detail, but do not publish the test patterns, so most of what follows is marked as commonly reported. This page separates the two tests, maps each section to the December Code subject that prepares for it, says what it does not cover, and ends with a practice set from pages whose samples are already public.
December Code is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Infosys. This page summarises how Infosys campus hiring (SE, DSE, SP) is publicly described, from the sources listed at the end, checked on 29 September 2026. Where a detail comes from prep sites or candidate reports rather than Infosys itself, the page says so. The notification or test invitation for the drive you are sitting is the source of truth, and where it differs from this page, it is right.
How the process runs
A round is marked official when Infosys describes it on its own pages, and commonly reported when the description comes from prep sites and candidate reports.

Application through campus or the Infosys careers portalofficial
Infosys's graduates page lists its entry routes for India: campus and off-campus hiring for its engineering roles, HackWithInfy, internships, and the InfyTQ learning and engagement platform. Off-campus drives for Specialist Programmer and DSE are announced on the careers portal, where registration happens.
- 2
Systems Engineer online testcommonly reported
Prep sites report a 100-minute test in five timed sections: reasoning ability, mathematical ability, verbal ability, pseudocode and puzzle solving, with sectional cut-offs and no negative marking. Passing it leads to a technical interview and an HR interview.
- 3
DSE and Specialist Programmer coding testcommonly reported
Reported as three coding problems in three hours, one easy, one medium and one hard, in C, C++, Java, Python or JavaScript, with a hidden-test-case bar per problem. Performance across the three decides whether the offer is for DSE or Specialist Programmer; some drives are reported to add an in-person second sitting before the interview.

HackWithInfyofficial
Infosys's HackWithInfy page describes the 2026 edition for students graduating in 2027: a virtual first round in March 2026, a face-to-face second round in April 2026, and a grand finale in November 2026, with pre-placement interview opportunities for Specialist Programmer and other roles in its specialised units.

Technical and HR interviewscommonly reported
For Systems Engineer, candidates report a technical interview on a programming language, DBMS, operating systems, networking and the final-year project, then a short HR round. For SP and DSE, reports describe live coding on a shared screen and questions on trees, graphs and basic system design before HR.
What the test asks, and what prepares you for it
5 of 6 sections map to a December Code subject. The rest are named below, not glossed over.
| Section | What it tests | Prepare with |
|---|---|---|
| Reasoning Ability (SE test)commonly reported | Series, coding-decoding, blood relations, syllogisms, arrangements and data sufficiency. Commonly reported as 15 questions in 25 minutes. | Aptitude |
| Mathematical Ability (SE test)commonly reported | Percentages, ratios, averages, profit and loss, time and work, speed and distance, permutations and probability. Commonly reported as 10 questions in 35 minutes: fewer, harder questions. | Aptitude |
| Verbal Ability (SE test)commonly reported | Reading comprehension, sentence correction, para-jumbles and vocabulary. Commonly reported as 20 questions in 20 minutes. | |
| Pseudocode (SE test)commonly reported | Trace short programs written in a C-like pseudocode and predict their output: loops, conditions, arrays, recursion and simple data structures. Commonly reported as 5 questions in 10 minutes. | CDSA |
| Puzzle Solving (SE test)commonly reported | Numerical and logical puzzles, four in ten minutes by most reports. | Aptitude |
| Coding test (DSE and SP)commonly reported | Three problems of rising difficulty: an implementation problem, then greedy or search, then dynamic programming, each graded on hidden test cases. The languages accepted are the mainstream ones. | DSAJavaPython |
Two tests, two preparations
The mistake students make with Infosys is preparing for the wrong paper. The Systems Engineer test is a speed test on aptitude with a small pseudocode section, and its cut-offs are reported to be sectional, so a student strong in reasoning and weak in verbal ability still fails. The DSE and Specialist Programmer test has no aptitude at all: it is three hours of coding, and it is reported to be harder than most campus coding tests, with the third problem typically a dynamic-programming problem that only a minority solve fully.
December Code measures the aptitude behind the SE test's reasoning, mathematical and puzzle sections, the code-tracing behind its pseudocode section, and the data-structure reasoning behind the coding test. It does not run code. For the DSE and SP route, the site tells you which data-structure topics you would get wrong in an interview; the timed coding itself needs a judge that executes your solution.
What the interview asks
Candidate reports for the Systems Engineer interview are remarkably stable across years: explain your project, then a walk through a language you claim (Java, C++ or Python), object-oriented concepts with an example, SQL queries with joins and aggregation, normalisation, what an operating system does with processes and memory, and a few networking terms. The HR round asks about relocation, night shifts and the training at Mysuru. Reports of SP and DSE interviews add live coding on a shared editor, tree and graph problems, and questions about how a solution scales.
That interview list maps cleanly onto the subject hubs here: OOP, DBMS, SQL, operating systems, computer networks, and the language you name. The diagnostic in each takes about fifteen minutes and shows which topics would cost you the round.
InfyTQ, Springboard and the certification route
Prep sites describe an older route into Infosys through the InfyTQ certification, and some now say that route has moved to Infosys Springboard. What Infosys itself shows is narrower: its graduates page still lists InfyTQ as a learning and engagement platform, and a June 2023 press release describes free AI certifications on Springboard, a platform Infosys says has millions of registered learners. Whether a Springboard certification changes an offer or a test is not something Infosys states on those pages, so this page does not claim it either.
How the season runs
Infosys runs on-campus drives through placement cells and periodic off-campus drives for SP and DSE that are announced on its careers portal, often open to more than one graduating batch at once. HackWithInfy is annual and aimed at pre-final-year students: the 2026 edition's rounds ran from March and its finale is in November, which means a student who wants the SP pre-placement route has to start a year before placement season. The drive you can apply to is on Infosys's portal; none of the dates on prep sites should be relied on over it.
What December Code covers here, and what it does not
The diagnostic and practice cover Aptitude, DSA, OOP, DBMS, SQL, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, Java, Python, C: the subjects behind 5 of the 6 sections above. It does not cover the following, and no page here pretends to:
- Verbal Ability: reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary are a full section of the Systems Engineer test and are not tested here.
- The coding judge: the DSE and Specialist Programmer test is three timed problems executed against hidden test cases. December Code prepares the data-structure and language thinking in MCQ form; it does not execute code.
- HackWithInfy's team and finale formats, which are a competition, not a written test.
What could not be confirmed from Infosys
- The Systems Engineer test's section counts and durations (15, 10, 20, 5 and 4 questions across 100 minutes) come from prep sites; Infosys does not publish them.
- The three-problem, three-hour coding test and its per-problem test-case bars are reported by PrepInsta and others, not by Infosys.
- Whether InfyTQ certification still plays any part in hiring: Infosys lists the platform, prep sites describe it as absorbed into Springboard, and neither says what it does for an offer.
A practice set for Infosys campus hiring (SE, DSE, SP)
Topic pages in the subjects this process tests, each with the questions interviewers ask and one question from the bank exactly as the diagnostic asks it. Nothing is published for this page: every sample was already public on its topic page.
- Number series questionsThe reasoning section's most reported family, and the puzzle section borrows from it.
- Coding-decoding questionsReported in the reasoning section of nearly every Systems Engineer paper.
- Percentage aptitude questionsThe mathematical section is short and each question is worth more; percentages underpin half of them.
- Permutations and combinations questionsCounting and probability are reported as the harder end of the mathematical section.
- Time and work questionsA reported fixture of the mathematical section.
- Blood relations questionsA reasoning family that is slow until the notation is practised.
- Array and two-pointer interview questionsThe first coding problem is usually an array or string implementation.
- Dynamic programming interview questionsThe third problem of the DSE and SP test is reported to be dynamic programming.
- Recursion and backtracking interview questionsThe bridge between the pseudocode section and the harder coding problems.
- Binary tree and BST interview questionsTrees are the data structure reports name most for SP and DSE interviews.
- Graph interview questionsGraph traversal is the other structure reported in SP interviews.
How the diagnostic asks it
One public question per subject, the same one its hub shows. The answer is marked because these are public; in a sitting you choose first, then see why each option is right or wrong.
In a class of 80 students, 65% passed the mathematics exam. How many students passed?
- 155
- 252correct
- 360
- 448
65% of 80 = (65/100) x 80 = 52. So 52 students passed the exam.
Which of the following operations on an unsorted array of n integers takes O(n) time in the worst case?
- 1Finding the maximum elementcorrect
- 2Appending an element at the end when spare capacity already exists
- 3Reading the element at index k
- 4Reading the array's length
In an unsorted array the maximum could be anywhere, so every element must be examined: O(n). Indexed reads are O(1) because the address is computed from the base and the index; appending into existing spare capacity just writes one slot, O(1); and the length is stored, so reading it is O(1). Only a sorted array would let the maximum be read directly.
Measure it
Knowing the pattern tells you what is coming. A diagnostic tells you what you would get wrong.
10 Aptitude questions across its topics, easy to hard, about fifteen minutes. You get a readiness figure with the arithmetic shown, the topics you missed named, and a practice set sized for today. Free: 1 diagnostic a month and 15 problems a day. No card.
